A new, 12-story residential development will be built at 55 India Street in the heart of downtown Boston along the edge of Rose Kennedy Greenway across from the proposed Harbor Garage tower. The site has been used for the past 50 years as a surface parking lot. The name of the condo has not yet been finalized, but without a doubt, this new building will significantly improve the overall aesthetic of the area.
Developed by Boston Residential Development, LLC (Kevin Ahearn of Otis & Ahearn and Michael Durand of Boston Residential Development), 55 India Street will house 44 condominium units, which may include 24 one-bedroom, 11 two–bedroom, and nine three-bedroom homes ranging in size from 600 to 1,750 square feet. Specifics are still being worked out. Three-bedroom homes, which are hard to come by in the city and often coveted by empty nesters looking for the extra space for when the kids come home or when friends come to visit, will add to the appeal of this new development. Four of the homes may be penthouse duplexes.
Residents will be encouraged to take advantage of the public transportation options in the area and to use bikes. In fact, the building will offer one bike storage unit for every home. On-site parking will not be offered, but residents can access parking at nearby facilities.
The 67,000 square foot building includes 4,000 square feet of street-level commercial space for retail or a restaurant. Hacin + Associates is the architectural firm.
