Outdoor space is a luxury in and of itself for city-dwellers, but those with their own private space are especially fortunate. Here are some tips for maximizing function while maintaining style.
When it comes to selecting furniture for your outdoor space in the city, you want to ensure that the pieces are flexible to accommodate more or less space depending on the circumstances. If you have the room, sectionals are excellent choices because of the ability to separate and move the pieces around to suit your needs. There are also a multitude of furniture options available such as side tables that rise to become coolers when entertaining, coffee tables that store additional seating, or a planter that pops into a table such as in the photo above.
Vertical gardens are a huge trend right now as they provide greenery in the midst of concrete and allow for privacy. As a bonus, they not only look good, but are actually good for your carbon footprint. Vertical gardens absorb and filter out toxins improving the air quality.
If you do not have the ability to grow a vertical garden, potted plants are another way to add some greenery to your outdoor space. They even have these fabulous LED planters that will help set the mood while entertaining or relaxing with a glass of wine in the evening.
The last thing you want to do is overwhelm a small space with too much “stuff.” Keep the lines clean, the color scheme simple, and stick to only the pieces you need.
